Course Description:
Myofascial (connective tissue) release encompasses the mechanical aspects of tissue, tissue neurophysiology, the understanding of circulation, and utilizes palpation skills to initiate systemic tissue changes through connective tissue mobilization. The techniques are indicated in cases of acute pain, muscle spasm, inflammation, chronic joint and tissue restriction. Myofascial release techniques are applied with the awareness of patient response to treatment and awareness of tissues/area being worked thus can be gentle and controlled or moderately aggressive. These techniques can be implemented during all phases of the rehabilitation process.
Course Objectives:
- Identify differences in tissue tension and appreciate the "tight-loose concept".
- Develop palpation appreciation for tissue balance, upsetting the balance and waiting for release.
- Develop an awareness of inherent tissue motion and the opportunity to palpate.
- Develop an ability to assess and treat specific myofascial problems relating to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions.
- Apply indirect and direct techniques to joints and tissue planes of the body.
