Philosophy of care: As a recovering person and counselor, I feel devastated by the plight of alcoholism and the devastation it causes to families. I feel it is important to address not just the addict, but the family as well, so it does not continue to spiral down to our children of tomorrow.
Breaking the denial of the addict and the families is the start to addressing a disease that continues to carry a strong stigma and stereotype today. I have battled this illness whether it be in myself or my family for 28 yeas and I continue to believe it is a ¿feelings¿ disease. We do not feel, trust or talk about it. It is time to acknowledge there is an elephant in the living room, and it is called addiction.
