Carrie had Bariatric Surgery in June of 2002. Since the surgery, she has lost 160 pounds. Because of her weight loss, she has found it much easier to exercise, and is now taking dance lessons and attending yoga classes. Before the surgery, Carrie had six knee surgeries to repair joint and cartilage damage.
Carries surgery recovery was a little slower than most. She was hospitalized for three weeks after the surgery, needing to be fed through a feeding tube. She says the Bellin Bariatric staff is what helped her pull through. "The staff was excellent, A++++. The Nurses, Doctors, and even the volunteer who brought me the newspaper in the morning were incredible."
Carrie also had some advice for those who were thinking about having Bariatric Surgery.
- Having a support person is so important. Your support person, or coach is someone who can support you in all phases of the surgery. Don’t go through the surgery process without one.
- Bariatric Surgery is not the easy way out. It requires a lifetime commitment.
