Children ages 2-12 are welcome to attend. This class is for prospective parents who already have children. Having a baby is a miraculous event, but it may be something unknown for siblings. They may be concerned or confused about what it means:
"What is a new baby like?"
"Where does mom go to get the baby?"
"Can we trade it if I don’t like it?"
Maternity staff meet with your other child or children to promote positive feelings about the new baby. Just as Moms and Dads feel more comfortable touring the Maternity program, so too will your child. Children have the opportunity to ask questions in an atmosphere of fun. Skilled leaders from our maternity department use a variety of resources such as hand puppets and films to lead discussion. Visual aids also allow children to touch items used for the new baby, taste actual formula, hold a newborn doll and listen to your baby’s heartbeat.
Siblings will visit a room, like the one mom will be in. They will come to a better understanding of what is happening in the family and what it means to be part of this miracle of love.
