ManorCare is new Bellin Run sponsor
GREEN BAY — Patients recovering from total hip or knee replacement, or other debilitating illnesses or injury, will be reaffirming their rehabilitation on Saturday, June 13 as invited guests taking part in the 33rd annual Bellin Run on the Back to the Road Crew Race Team. They will be walking or running this year’s new shortened course, The ManorCare Mile, or the entire 10K (6.2 mile) route.
Bellin Run sponsor Manor Care, will host the invite-only Back to the Road Crew, a program to get orthopedic, cardiac rehab and general rehab patients active again after medical treatment. Back to the Road is an expansion of last year’s Joints Walk program that drew about 150 registrants in the Joints for Life program.
“We’re glad to be partnered with Bellin Health and the Bellin Run to provide a great opportunity for our patients to get back on their feet, get active again and enjoy the camaraderie and excitement of such a highly-anticipated and largely attended event,” said Renee Flis, business development specialist for ManorCare.
As part of the Friday, June 12 pre-race festivities, Back to the Road Crew members will enjoy a free VIP luncheon and motivational speech by Green Bay Packers football legend Jerry Kramer. That event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bellin Health’s Green Bay Health & Athletic Performance Center, 1630 Commanche Ave.
“Back to the Road Crew and The ManorCare Mile are welcomed additions,” said Randy Van Straten, race director. “We are always looking to make this annual event more inclusive. Any venture that gives more people an opportunity to participate, regardless of their ability level, is a welcomed addition to this community event.”
The Bellin Run drew 15,149 registrants last year. It also was ranked as the fourth-largest 10K road race in the United States. The run event, which traditionally draws 93 percent of its registrants from across Northeast Wisconsin, has experienced growth in each of the last four years. “We expect to see a continuation in that growth trend,” Van Straten said.
