GREEN BAY — Pulaski Middle School student Kelly Szczpanski will arrive at school Monday morning in a big, orange Schneider National Truck. Szczpanski was recently named the winner of the 2008 Bellin Run Trackin’ Your Truckin’ program.
Through the program, sponsored by Schneider National, young participants in this summer’s Bellin Run were given log books and pedometers to keep record of their steps and miles starting the day after the annual race until Labor Day. The winning student earned a ride to school in a Schneider truck.
The program is part of the Bellin Run’s Kids for Running program. It includes kids in 3rd through 12th grades, encouraging them to get involved with the community in anticipation of the Bellin Run. In 2008, more than 1,900 participated in the program.
“We’re proud of Kelly and of all our participants and will continue encouraging our youngsters to participate in 2009,” said Tia Schartner, Kids for Running coordinator.
“Kelly’s recognition is a great way to put a final cap on the 2008 Bellin Run and create a stir of excitement for preparations for next year’s run which is already scheduled for Saturday, June 13,” said Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run race director.
Kids for Running, the Middle School Challenge (7th and 8th graders) and the High School Challenge prepare young people to run or walk the Bellin Run. Many students participate in these programs as part of their after-school program activities or running programs. Faculty, staff and parents often train with the students as well.
