Oconto Hospital Gets Name Change

OCONTO — The Bond Health Center in Oconto has a new name to accompany its growing array of services.

The Oconto-based facility, which opened in 2005, is now the Oconto Hospital & Medical Center, a change deemed necessary to better reflect the services the facility offers area patients, said Laura Cormier, director of the hospital.

“People often assume that we are just a clinic, but we’re significantly more than that,” she said. “We are a hospital that serves both inpatients and outpatients with a four bed inpatient unit, observation services, a 24-hour emergency room, defined hours urgent care, sleep studies, X-ray, lab, physical therapy and respite care services. We also recently added a CT scanner, ultrasound and expanded lab capabilities.”

The name change, effective Wednesday, Oct. 1, also helps end some of the confusion that has long surrounded the Bond Health Center, 820 Arbutus Ave., Oconto, and the Bond Community Center, 1201 Park Ave., Oconto.

“Since we opened, people have confused the two facilities, just because both are better known by the shorter version of their names – the Bond Center,” Cormier said. “The name change will effectively make a distinction between the two facilities.  We are proud to have had the Bond name associated with our facility since opening, yet as we continue to grow our services we feel it is time for our name to be more reflective of what we do.”

The former Bond Health Center reached a major milestone in July when it provided care to its 10,000th patient.

“It’s exciting and encouraging when you realize the number of people we have served in less than three years of operation,” Cormier said. “We look forward to continuing to expand our services and provide appropriate care locally so patients don’t have to travel out of the area to receive quality health care.”

Oconto Hospital & Medical Center also offers a 24/7 nurse on call service at (920) 835-1105. The free service provides answers to health related questions or can be used to schedule an appointment with one of the three Bellin Health primary care clinics in Oconto County: Bellin Health Family Medical Center-Oconto, FMC-Oconto Falls, FMC-Suring or the new primary care clinic within Oconto Hospital & Medical Center – Oconto Medical Clinic.

Oconto Hospital & Medical Center is a joint partnership between Bellin Health and the Oconto Hospital Citizens’ Foundation formed to meet the health care needs of the residents of Oconto and surrounding communities.
