Bellin to offer fitness testing for seniors
OCONTO — Free testing designed to assess physical fitness in older adults will be available to the public from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Bellin Health’s Bond Community Center in Oconto.
The Senior Fitness Test was developed as a series of simple, easy-to-perform actions to help gauge the fitness level of residents who are 55 years of age or older. Test actions include knee lifts, standing from a seated position, upper and lower body flexibility assessments and more. The Bond Community Center is at 1201 Park Ave., Oconto.
“Maintaining adequate strength, endurance and agility is critical,” said Charlie DeCleene, a physical therapist with Bellin Health Sports Medicine. “That’s true, whether our later-day life interests include playing golf, climbing mountains or simply being able to perform everyday tasks such as stair climbing or getting out of a chair or bathtub without assistance.”
Following the testing, participants will have an opportunity to meet with a Bellin Health therapist to discuss the test results and receive suggestions for better health and fitness.
