SURING — Bellin Health will hold a free heart health screening from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at its Suring clinic.
The screenings include total cholesterol and glucose tests, a blood pressure check and body mass index tests. Results will be available 10 minutes after the assessments.
“The screenings are an opportunity for patients to be evaluated, for free, and learn the healthiness of their heart,” said Teresa Watters, the nurse practitioner who will conduct the screenings.
Appointments are required. Participants are encouraged to fast for 10 hours before their appointment for more accurate results. Morning medication and water are allowed. The clinic, Bellin Health Family Medical Center-Suring, is at 307 Manor Drive, Suring.
Heart diseases kill roughly 700,000 people each year in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure helps trim the risk of death from heart disease, experiencing a nonfatal heart attack, and needing bypass surgery or angioplasty,” Watters said. “Among people without heart disease, studies show lowering high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure lessens the risk of ever developing the disease.”
