New Leaf, Bellin Health preparing for Winter Farmer’s Market

An increase in the popularity of locally-grown food has helped boost vendor participation in this year’s New Leaf Winter Farmer’s Market presented by Bellin Health.

Downtown Green Bay, Inc., New Leaf Market and Bellin Health are again partnering on the popular farmer’s market series to be held at the KI Convention Center, 333 Main St., Green Bay, in Exhibit Hall C. It is Bellin’s second year as presenting sponsor.

The markets will be offered from 8 a.m.-noon December through February. The dates are December 1, 15 and 22; January 12; and February 2 and 23. Admission is free with free parking available in the Main Street ramp as well as along neighboring streets.

The farmer’s market is designed to positively impact downtown revitalization efforts and promote the local food economy by offering an off-season community event, bringing consumers closer to producers and growers, and providing access to locally-grown, healthy food.

The market will feature more than 85 vendors selling local meats, fish, cheeses, jams, produce, coffee and prepared foods. The market also will offer arts, live entertainment and more.

On December 15, more than 120 vendors will participate in an extended holiday market featuring additional local artists and crafters. The market will also offer visits with Santa from 10 a.m.-noon during each December date.

New for this year, the market will offer cooking demonstrations featuring local chefs at 9 a.m. and 1 a.m.

“As a locally-based health system, we are especially interested in those ventures and partnerships that help enhance the overall health and wellness of our community,” said George Kerwin, Bellin Health president and CEO. “The winter farmer’s market is a great way to encourage people to embrace healthy eating and a healthier lifestyle by offering them fresh, healthy, local food alternatives.”

Other event sponsors include WLUK Fox 11, 99.7 The Drive, Wisconsin Public Radio and the KI Convention Center.
