All of the services provided to you while you are in the Adult Psychiatric Treatment Program are geared toward assisting you to explore behavior patterns, which may be causing some upset in your individual or family life. This goal is accompanied through educational and experimental sessions with social services, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, recreational therapy, and nursing. The following will provide you with a brief description of some of the classes available to you.
1. Educational/Experiential Classes
Through the classes you are exposed to new methods of coping with life’s difficulties as well as being assisted in strengthening your previous coping skills. You will be assisted in gaining new insights into behaviors that will help you adapt to everyday life. Some of the topics include: communications skills, self esteem, codependency, stress management, relaxation, assertiveness, and conflict resolution.
2. Occupational Therapy
A wide variety of craft media are utilized to meet the goals of you treatment program. Specific activities or projects can help you work on increasing decision making abilities, work skills, and socialization skills, as well as decreasing tension and anxiety.
3. Recreational Therapy
Recreational therapy offers a variety of activities and leisure education, which help to enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of the individual. It is an opportunity to explore and develop leisure interest, which contribute, to constructive and satisfying use of leisure time.
4. Group Therapy
Group therapy involves a gathering of patients on your unit who will make a commitment to understand themselves and one another better with the help of one or more therapists. Group members offer each other support, insight, and reassurance.
5. Community Meeting
The purpose of this session is to go over the daily schedule, answer any questions about the unit expectations, and bring to staffs attention any concerns. It is also a time to set a goal for the day that relates to your treatment issues.
6. Expressive Therapy
This is a form of therapy whereby the patient is encouraged to express him/herself through the use of multiple forms of media. These forms of expression are accomplished as a group or individual activities with the purpose of:
Assisting the patient to express him/herself in a safe way.
Giving the patient a wide range of creative experiences.
Assisting the patient who is unable to express him/herself verbally.
Providing an atmosphere in which the patient can understand and experience working as a team.
A discussion at the end of the day to assist with closure of the day’s events and end your day with a positive thought.
About The Unit
While you are here you will have many opportunities to learn more about yourself. Through classes and 1:1 counseling you will have an opportunity to learn new coping skills to better deal with the stresses, pressures, and feelings which may be related to your illness. Educational materials on medications and mental illness can be provided for you and your family. We are eager to begin working with you and encourage your participation in order that you might speed your recovery.
