What is Pediatric Rehabilitation?
Physical and Occupational Therapy targeting children, ages birth to 18, who have physical challenges due to illness, injury, surgery, or congenital defaults.
First, a comprehensive evaluation is performed to assess the child's strengths and limitations. Then a treatment plan is designed to achieve the goals of the child and family.
Who is appropriate for treatment?
Children ages birth to 18 with the following diagnoses would benefit from Pediatric Rehabilitation:
- Muscle Strains and Joint Sprains
- Sports Injuries
- Post-surgical Recovery
- Torticollis
- Toe Walkers
- Brachial Plexus Injuries
- Neurological Disorders
- Cerebral Palsy-Post Botox or Post Surgical
- Post Fracture Recovery
- Tendon Lacerations
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Juvenile Arthritis
- Autism
- Sensory Integrative Dysfunction
What happens during treatment?
Physical and occupational therapists may use several different techniques for rehabilitation, including:
- Range of Motion and Stretching
- Strengthening and Endurance Activities
- Balance Training
- Muscle Re-education
- Aquatic Therapy
- Ultrasound and Electrical Stimulation
- Gait Training
- Functional Training
- Sensory Integration
Upon completion of treatment, physical and occupational therapists provide guidance to the child and their family for continued management as needed.
