Course Description: Lifestyle behaviors surrounding how we recover and what we put into our bodies is getting more attention from those treating people in pain. There is mounting evidence showing the link between optimal sleep, eating well, staying physically active, avoiding risky substances, and staying socially connected and one’s health. However, addressing these behaviors can be challenging for the busy clinician who is often seeing the person for someone seemingly unrelated to these behaviors (e.g. low back pain, knee pain, etc.). This course will allow for the learner to recognize the link between these lifestyle behaviors with a focus on sleep, movement and nutrition and how to integrate behavior change in the clinician’s plan of care. The course will involve the use of small group case activities to bring this content to life so that the learner can bring what is gained straight to the clinic.
