Bellin Women’s Half Marathon Adds 5K Event

3.1-mile option encourages participation in region’s only female-focused race

The Bellin Women’s Half Marathon will add a 5K race in 2018, expanding the footprint of the only event in its kind in Northeast Wisconsin. Registration opens April 1 for this year’s race on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Organizers are adding the 3.1-mile distance to allow more women to take part in the region’s only female-focused race, said race director Linda Maxwell.

“We know some women simply prefer a shorter race, while others may not yet be ready to tackle the half marathon or half marathon relay distance,” Maxwell said. “This is also a great opportunity for more walkers to be a part of our event. No matter what the distance, we want women to enjoy the awesome atmosphere and camaraderie of our one-of-a-kind race while doing something good for their health and wellbeing.”

The Bellin Women’s 5K will start outside the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay, taking off just minutes after the half marathon and half marathon relay begin at 8 a.m. The 5K course will head south through the beautiful residential neighborhoods between S. Monroe Avenue and the Fox River before winding down the scenic Fox River Trail and finishing in the heart of downtown on Green Bay’s CityDeck.

All Bellin Women’s 5K registrants will receive a long-sleeve hoodie and a custom finisher medallion. They will have the option of purchasing a ticket for the event’s signature race-eve Women’s Inspiration Dinner, which features an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet and the inspirational words of a soon-to-be-announced nationally renowned keynote speaker. Tickets will be $20 in advance or $25 after online registration closes. Registration for the 5K starts at $30 and increases to $35 July 1.

Individual registration for the Bellin Women’s Half Marathon starts at $90, and the cost of the two-person relay starts at $140. Registrants for those events will receive a long-sleeve hoodie, a custom finisher medallion, a headband and a one-of-a-kind gear-check bag. Registration for the half marathon events also includes a ticket to the Friday, Oct. 5 Women’s Inspiration Dinner.

Registration for all three events includes admission to the event’s rockin’ post-race riverfront dance party and awards ceremony, as well as its signature post-race goodies. Once registration opens April 1, sign up will be quick and easy at www.bellinwomenshalf.com.

Dubbed “a race to empower women,” the fourth annual Bellin Women’s Half Marathon will take place Saturday, Oct. 6. The only event of its kind in Northeastern Wisconsin, the race seeks to celebrate and motivate female athletes of all levels and abilities. The focus also provides an opportunity to spotlight training and health issues specifically related to women. Training runs for the fourth annual event will begin in July.
