Packers, Bellin Health Team to Promote Safe Cycling

Aug. 6 Bike Rodeo event features helmet fittings, bike safety course, giveaways

The Green Bay Packers, Bellin Health and the Safe Kids Coalition will team up to promote bicycle safety during a Bike Rodeo event from 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at Lambeau Field.

The event, to be held before that morning’s Green Bay Packers training camp practice, will feature free bike helmet fittings, a bike helmet giveaway and a bike safety course designed to help children learn the rules of the road. Kids’ activities, including face painting and balloon twisters, will be offered and participants will have the opportunity to win signed Packers memorabilia. The event is an initiative of the Titletown Wellness partnership between the Packers and Bellin Health.

The Bike Rodeo celebrates a time-honored Packers tradition in which children bring their bikes to training camp and allow the players to ride the bikes between the locker room at Lambeau Field and the practice facilities across Oneida Street. The event is held in the Lambeau Field parking lot near the Oneida Nation Gate on the stadium’s east side.

Children can take part in the free bike helmet fitting from 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. For those who have helmets, representatives will be on hand to check sizing and make adjustments. For those without, free bike helmets will be available for 800 children on a first-come, first-served basis. Safety experts will educate children and parents alike on the importance of wearing bike helmets.

The event also will feature a newly redesigned bike obstacle course staffed by the De Pere Police Department. It’s a fun way for kids to learn hands-on bicycle safety in a friendly environment.
