OCONTO FALLS — Dr. Charles Heyka of Bellin Health Family Medical Center-Oconto Falls recently was recertified with the American Board of Family Medicine.
Board certification confers a standard of excellence to physicians who certify via an examination process as well as through the general maintenance of their professional skills during the seven-year cycle between examinations.
To achieve recertification by the American Board of Family Medicine, a family physician must complete 300 hours of continuing medical education, possess a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States and successfully complete a one-day, written examination of cognitive knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
The recertification examination covers the disciplines of the physician’s specialty, including, but not limited to: adult medicine; care of newborns, infants, children and adolescents; maternity and gynecological care; community medicine; care of the elderly; human behavior and mental health; and care of surgical patients.
Heyka earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Mich. He completed his residency training in family practice at Bon Secours Hospital, Grosse Pointe, Mich., and became a board-certified family physician in 1988.
Heyka sees patients at Bellin’s Family Medical Center-Oconto Falls, 833 S. Main St. He is accepting new patients of all ages. For more information, please call (920) 846-3092.
