Bellin Medical Group earns diabetes care recognition
GREEN BAY — Thirteen family medical centers within the Bellin Medical Group were recently recognized by a national health care quality group for providing excellent care to diabetes patients.
The National Committee for Quality Assurance in partnership with the American Diabetes Association announced that Bellin Medical Group – a collection of family medical centers located throughout Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – has been recognized by the Diabetes Physicians Recognition Program for using evidence-based measures and providing top-notch care to patients with diabetes.
According to the National Committee for Quality Assurance, “Physicians who achieve (Diabetes Physicians Recognition Program) DPRP recognition show their peers, patients and others in the diabetes community that they are part of an elite group that is publicly recognized for its skill in providing the highest-level diabetes care.”
The recognition is valued within the Bellin Medical Group.
“It’s a great way to help us reinforce our current practices while also letting our diabetes patients know that they are indeed getting some of the best diabetes care available in Northeast Wisconsin,” said Lois Van Abel, team leader, Bellin Medical Group. “There only are just over 4,300 physicians nationwide who have this recognition, so it’s a noteworthy distinction for us.”
The Diabetes Physicians Recognition Program was created in 1997. To qualify, physicians submit performance data encompassing several areas of diabetes care, including eye exams, blood pressure tests, glucose levels and lipid control, among others. Patients with diabetes who receive care in accordance with these guidelines are less likely to experience complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney disease or amputations.
