Computer-Timed Route Includes Lap Around Lambeau Field
The Green Bay Packers and Bellin Health today announced details for the inaugural ‘5K Run at Lambeau Field,’ set for the morning of the Packers’ first day of training camp, July 31.
The computer-timed run, which begins at 10 a.m., is highlighted by a neighborhood route that ultimately takes participants into Lambeau Field and around the famed gridiron. The event has a special finish line located in the parking lot – a replica of the team's 50-yard line, which will be created on a partially sized natural grass field, painted to mirror Lambeau Field on game day.
“As our players get training camp underway, runners and walkers can participate in their own way through the 5K,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. “The start of training camp is an energizing time. We’re excited to add this healthy-minded event as part of the kickoff weekend.”
Bellin Health will be contributing its considerable race expertise to the event through logistical and medical support. The organization’s 10K race, the Bellin Run, is among the nation’s most popular races, and this year has drawn more than 17,000 registrants for its 34th running.
All participants will receive a Packers 5K Run T-shirt, a logoed bag, and a bib number with built-in timing strip. In addition, photos will be taken on the course and will be available at no cost on the Packers 5K Run website.
Packers-themed awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each age group. An awards ceremony will take place in the Tundra Tailgate Zone after the race.
Registration, which is $25 for adults and $15 for children (12 and younger), is open and available online at www.packers.com/5k. Mail-in registration also is an option, with forms available online and in person at Lambeau Field. Interested runners and walkers are encouraged to register early as there is a cap on the number of participants for the event. After July 15, registration fees will increase to $30 and $20, respectively.
The Tundra Tailgate Zone will be open for the event, with Saz’s offering food and beverage for purchase.
The Packers are partnering with local charities to raise money with the event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Anxiety Disorder Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club of Brown County, My Team Triumph, YWCA and the Volunteer Center of Brown County.
WIXX 101 is serving as radio partner for the event.
Further details on the run and registration information are available online at www.packers.com/5K and in person at the Bellin Run expo this evening.
With a theme of “Back to Football,” the Packers and Bellin Health have joined together to present training camp, Packers Family Night and the team’s two home preseason games. Family Night is set for Aug. 7, and home preseason games are set for Aug. 14, vs. the Cleveland Browns, and Aug. 26, vs. the Indianapolis Colts.
