OCONTO — Bellin Health’s Bond Community Center and the American Lung Association are offering a program designed to aid people’s efforts to quit tobacco use.
The program, Freedom From Smoking, provides participants with small group settings and a fun and interactive learning environment, conducive to tobacco cessation.
“When a person is committed to ending their tobacco use, there are several proven methods to help,” said Debbie Leoni, community outreach coordinator and Freedom From Smoking facilitator at Bellin. “Those methods work best when done within a group setting or with group support. Freedom From Smoking offers that type of support.”
A free orientation session will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the Bond Community Center, 1201 Park Ave., Oconto. Dr. Charles Heyka of Bellin Health Family Medical Centers in Oconto and Oconto Falls will discuss tobacco cessation options and explain the effectiveness of certain options. The formal seven-week program will start on January 26. It will be held Tuesday evenings. The cost is $75. Registration is required.
Program topics include: Medication to aid smoking cessation; lifestyle changes to make quitting easier; preparing for quit day; managing stress; avoiding weight gain; developing a new self image; and staying smoke-free for good.
