Bellin Health offers free heart health screening


OCONTO FALLS — Bellin Health will hold a free heart assessment from 8-10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at its Oconto Falls clinic.

The assessments, to be performed by Dr. Charles Heyka, include total cholesterol and glucose tests, a blood pressure check, body mass index tests and body fat analysis. Results are available in 10 minutes.

Participants are encouraged to fast for 10 hours before their appointment for more accurate results, although morning medications and water are allowed. Appointments are required.

The clinic, Bellin Health Family Medical Center-Oconto Falls, is at 833 S. Main St.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for people of most ethnicities in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2009, heart disease was estimated to have cost the United States $304.6 billion. The total included the cost of health care services, medications and lost productivity.
