Bellin earns kudos for organ donor enrollment efforts

GREEN BAY – Bellin Hospital recently earned honors from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The recognition highlights Bellin’s efforts to promote enrollment in state organ donor registries.

Bellin was part of a nationwide campaign, sponsored by HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), that has added 327,659 donor enrollments to state registries nationwide since 2011, exceeding a goal of 300,000.

The hospital conducted awareness and registry campaigns to educate staff, patients, visitors, and the community about the need for organ, eye, and tissue donors. By doing so, Bellin helped increase the number of potential donors on the state’s donor registry.

Bellin earned points for each activity implemented between June 2013 and May 2014 and was awarded silver recognition through the Workplace Partnership for Life hospital campaign. Of the 1,228 hospitals and transplant centers participating in the campaign, 400 were awarded recognition during this phase of the campaign.

The Workplace Partnership for Life campaign helped mobilize the nation’s hospitals to increase the number of people in the country who are registered organ, eye, and tissue donors. The campaign unites donation advocates at hospitals with representatives from area organ procurement organizations, Donate Life America affiliates, and state and regional hospital associations. The teams collaborate and leverage their communications resources and outreach efforts to better spread word of the critical need for donors.
