Algoma HS to Host New Wellness Center Open House March 18
ALGOMA, WI — Algoma School District will hold a public celebration Wednesday, March 18 to mark the opening of its new 20,000-square foot Community Wellness Center.
“Our open house is an opportunity for people to see this shining example of our residents reinvesting in not only their schools, but in the health of our entire community,” said Nick Cochart, superintendent and principal for the School District of Algoma.
The community is invited to attend the celebration from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 18 at Algoma High School, 1715 Division Street. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. The free public event will feature tours of the new facility, membership opportunities, refreshments, door prizes and other activities.
The new wellness facility features:
• New member orientations
• Strength and conditioning area
• Cardio area
• Group fitness and specialty classes
• Individual, family, senior and student memberships
The initial hours of operation are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, from March 19 to April 2 (closed Good Friday).
Bellin Health has partnered with the School District of Algoma to help operationalize and staff the Community Wellness Center. In addition, Bellin Health is working with school district and community representatives on a comprehensive initiative to improve the health of the community, using the wellness center as a foundational element. Known as “Live Healthy, Live Well, Live Algoma,” the project will launch this summer.
The Algoma initiative is part of a global campaign, 100 Million Healthier Lives, begun by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Through the campaign, coalitions of health care representatives and community stakeholders from across the nation and throughout the world are partnering to develop innovative solutions to achieve the shared goal of 100 million people living healthier lives by 2020.
