Registration Opens May 1 for Bellin Women’s Half Marathon

Inaugural Event Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26

Registration will open May 1 for the inaugural Bellin Women’s Half Marathon, a 13.1-mile individual race and two-person relay taking place Saturday, Sept. 26.

The scenic point-to-point course begins at Bayshore County Park in Dyckesville and meanders along the bay to conclude at a favorite Green Bay destination, Bay Beach Amusement Park. First-year registration is capped at 2,000 runners.

Race organizers are eager to leverage the expertise behind Green Bay’s signature 10K race, the Bellin Run, for a new female-focused event that is completely unique to Northeastern Wisconsin, said race director Linda Maxwell.

“Nationwide, some 60 percent of half marathon finishers are women,” Maxwell said. “Women’s half marathons are a popular emerging trend — and yet not something that previously existed in our region. We’re excited to change that, and for this tremendous opportunity to shine a spotlight on our female athletes.”

Dubbed “a race to empower women,” the Bellin Women’s Half Marathon seeks to celebrate and motivate female athletes of all levels and abilities, Maxwell said. The focus also provides an opportunity to spotlight training and health issues specifically related to women, such as the unique challenges facing runners who are mothers.

“The benefits of regular exercise are innumerable, from helping manage stress to reducing the risk of chronic conditions that many women face,” said Dr. Anna Igler, a physician at Bellin Health Generations, a healthcare practice for women and led by women. “What’s more, these habits tend to last. Once women train for and complete the Bellin Women’s Half Marathon, we know they’re more likely to keep running as part of a healthy lifestyle.”

Race participants will be well-supported in their training, with free training runs held Wednesdays and Saturdays at Bellin Health Bellevue, 3263 Eaton Road.

The Bellin Women’s Half Marathon also will offer a one-of-a-kind race weekend experience. Registration includes admission to the Friday night Women’s Inspiration Dinner, as well as a unique collectable finisher medallion and a quality long-sleeve finishers shirt and headband. Post-race, women and their families will celebrate with a riverfront dance party at downtown Green Bay’s CityDeck.
