Bellin Women’s Half Marathon Charts New Course
Registration opens April 7 for third annual female-focused event
The Bellin Women’s Half Marathon has charted a new course for 2017, firmly planting its roots in downtown Green Bay to enhance the participant and spectator experience. Registration opens at 9 a.m. April 7 for this year’s race on Saturday, Oct. 7.
“The Bellin Women’s Half Marathon has always had a strong presence in downtown Green Bay, with our pre- and post-event festivities taking place in this vibrant urban setting,” said Race Director Linda Maxwell. “Having our start and finish downtown provides a host of advantages for participants and spectators alike — and we know they’re going to love the miles in between.”
The 2017 Bellin Women’s Half Marathon will start outside the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay. Participants will cross the Main Street Bridge and turn south on North Broadway, which they’ll traverse through Green Bay and Ashwaubenon, into De Pere (North Broadway becomes South Broadway and eventually Fort Howard Avenue). Relay pairs will exchange their wristbands just before participants head down Reid Street and skirt the St. Norbert College campus before crossing the Claude Allouez Bridge in De Pere. They’ll take the scenic Fox River Trail back north, finishing in the heart of downtown on Green Bay’s CityDeck.
“This is a fun, flat, beautiful course that’s spectator friendly from start to finish,” Maxwell said. “Our participants will enjoy the convenience and ease of free parking ramp access near the start and finish lines, as well as the opportunity to keep warm inside the KI Convention Center prior to the start of the race. We’re keeping our pre-and post-race events downtown — and we’re thrilled our course will be there, too!”
The new location allows the Bellin Women’s Half Marathon to move its post-race dance party and awards ceremony to late Saturday morning, instead of holding it Saturday evening. The event is every bit the weekend-long celebration it was during its first two years, including the Friday night Women’s Inspiration Dinner at the K.I. Convention Center. Admission to the dinner and post-race party — as well as the event’s awesome swag and signature post-race goodies — is included in the cost of registration.
Individual registration for the Bellin Women’s Half Marathon is $90 from April 7-June 31, when it increases to $95. Registration for the two-person relay starts at $140. Once registration opens, sign up will be quick and easy at www.bellinwomenshalf.com.
Dubbed “a race to empower women,” the third annual Bellin Women’s Half Marathon will take place Saturday, Oct. 7. The only event of its kind in Northeastern Wisconsin, the race seeks to celebrate and motivate female athletes of all levels and abilities. The focus also provides an opportunity to spotlight training and health issues specifically related to women. Training runs for the third annual event will begin in July.
