Bellin Health’s “Best Hands in Green Bay”
A reality show-style competition for robotic-assisted surgery
Surgical robots are absolutely amazing to watch. But it's the experience of the surgeons using the robot that's the most important factor.
Bellin Health has performed robotic-assisted surgeries since 2005 — that's longer than any other hospital in Wisconsin.
In the right hands, robotic-assisted surgery causes less pain than traditional surgery, smaller incisions, quicker recovery time, less blood loss, decreased time under anesthesia, less chance for infection and shorter hospital stays.
Bellin surgeons truly have the best hands in the operating room. So we partnered with the best hands in the NFL — Green Bay Packers wide receivers Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jordy Nelson — in a reality show-style competition at Lambeau Field called the "Best Hands in Green Bay." It was all designed to build awareness of Bellin's outstanding robotic surgical team.
More than 600 people attended the event. Bellin Health also gave away a total of $15,000 to the players' three charities.
Bellin surgeons coached the three Packers players:
- Jennifer Erickson Foster, MD: Randall Cobb's coach
- Eric Jenison, MD: James Jones' coach
- Hamayun Mian, MD: Jordy Nelson's coach
Sportscaster and former Packers' center Larry McCarren served as the master of ceremonies. Ahman Green, the all-time leading rusher for the Packers, served as the referee. Bellin Health Public Relations and Communications Team Leader Dana Bzdawka served as the scorekeeper.
Cobb, Jones and Nelson competed against each other in Round One playing the board game "Operation" and tying the laces on football cleats using one of Bellin's surgical robots.
Jordy Nelson, the winning player from the first round, advanced to Round Two to face Bellin surgeon Dr. Yoon Chun in a grape-peeling competition.
The final round was hysterical to watch. Take a look at what the players did to get an edge.
Nearly 8,700 people voted on Bellin's Facebook page for who they thought would win each round of competition.
We gave away weekly prizes of autographed Packers jerseys and an autographed helmet. We're also selecting our Grand Prize winner in our "Best Hands in Green Bay" sweepstakes. They'll win four indoor club tickets to the Packers game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 22.
The "Best Hands in Green Bay" competition was so innovative, that Facebook plans to feature it as a case study.
Our thanks to our Bellin robotic surgical team and the Green Bay Packers for participating in this fun event. You truly have the best hands in your respective fields.
