The Right Care at the Right Time

Our Emergency Department is here for you - but sometimes another level of care is better suited for your needs. This guide can help you choose the right care at the right time. You may also call Bellin Health's 24-hour telehealth nursing hotline at (920) 445-7373 or (888) 758-7373.

Call 9-1-1 or go to the Emergency Department for severe conditions like:

  • Chest pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Weakness on one side of the body
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Seizures
  • Breathing problems
  • Major injuries

Emergency Department patients will be assessed by a triage nurse and may be asked to return to the waiting room temporarily. Wait times will vary depending on patient volume and the severity of patients' illness or injury. Even when our waiting area seems quiet, the Emergency Department may not be. We thank you for your patience as we work to provide you the high-quality emergency care you need as quickly as possible, while also serving your fellow patients.

Emergency Services

The Bellin Health Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified and board-eligible emergency physicians working in conjunction with family practice physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to provide the high-quality, compassionate acute care patients need. Our nurses are trained at the top level of their profession, with nearly 80% holding BSN degrees or higher (versus the 56% national average). We are here to serve you and your loved ones 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our Green Bay Emergency Department consists of 16 patient rooms, six observation rooms, and five KidCare rooms for pediatric patients. We serve 35,000-plus patients annually, providing the lowest cost and highest quality for area patients who require emergency care. We offer emergency services at Bellin Health Oconto Hospital with three beds, one trauma room, and specialist access. Complex cases are treated and transferred to our Green Bay location when necessary.

Bellin has long been known as the region's premier heart center, and we take pride in our industry-leading, 55-minute door-to-balloon time for heart attack patients. Bellin Health has been certified as a Primary Stroke Center, and Bellin is one of only three hospitals in Wisconsin - and 17 nationwide - to receive the Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Award from the American Heart Association. Our Emergency Department offers 24-7 in-house obstetrics coverage, and we have access to a full array of specialists including cardiac, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, teleneurology, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious disease, orthopedic surgery, psychiatry, and urology. Our KidCare department offers specialized pediatric emergency services with pediatricians and pediatric nurses providing expert, compassionate care in a child-friendly environment.

The Bellin Emergency Department provides patients with the appropriate care for their condition. We work closely with the County Rescue ambulance provider and Eagle III Ground and Air Medical Transportation to provide fast, reliable care when time is of the essence. In the rare event we do not offer a needed service, we have transfer agreements with other area facilities to keep care local.
