According to the American Heart Association, a healthy diet and lifestyle — including 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week —are your best weapons to fight cardiovascular disease.

Meantime, the American Cancer Society says eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, limiting your intake of red and processed meat — and being physically active — can reduce your risk of prostate and colorectal cancer.

Quitting smoking and/or drug use, keeping alcohol intake to a minimum, getting regular checkups and health screenings, sleeping for seven to eight hours a night, and making other healthy lifestyle choices, can make your life so much better.

Think about it this way: You get gas and regular oil changes for your car. You take it to the dealer for regular checkups — and it drives so much better. Your body works the same way.
