Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program

Treatment

Bellin Psychiatric Center offers an intensive outpatient mental health service for adults, ages 18 and older. The service offers patients intensive treatment, symptom
management, coping skills, and crisis support. It is an excellent resource for those who need more frequent visits than are available in traditional outpatient care, those going through a rough patch in their outpatient care, those struggling through a period of crisis, or those who would benefit from a step-down program after recent hospitalization.

The program is supervised by a doctoral level psychologist and treatment staff includes a mental health therapist, a psychiatric nurse prescriber, and a psychiatric registered nurse.

Expectations and Program Design

Patients are engaged in treatment up to 4-5 weeks. Patients attend 3-4 group sessions per week at the start of treatment. The frequency of treatment interventions (individual and group therapies) is expected to decrease based on achievement of individual treatment goals.

The program typically includes weekly individual therapy and weekly individual medication checks.

Example Schedule

The first hour of our group session will be a check-in group therapy. The second and third hours are more educational which include; cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, medication management, and health promotion. Our hope is to equip patients with positive coping strategies, and knowledge and understanding of mental health.

Admission, Insurance & Cost

The program and services are covered by most insurances. Verification of insurance benefits is done prior to admission to the program so the patient is fully aware of costs and charges that patients are responsible for per their benefit plan.

Requirements

A primary diagnosis of mental illness is mandated and a referral from a primary care or current psychiatric provider is required. The first step in the admission process is an intake/orientation meeting with one of the treatment staff. The level of participation in the program and development of a treatment plan are determined at that time.
