WIAA Skinfold Appeal Process

What is a DXA Scan?

Dual energy X-Ray absorptiometry or DXA is an advanced body composition assessment that will give you a precise body fat measurement.

What Do I Need to Know About the Test?

This test will be performed at Bellin Health, under the direct supervision of a certified DXA specialist. The results will be used to determine your minimum wrestling weight by the WIAA

What is the Purpose of the Test?

WIAA wrestlers (high school) look to get to a certain weight class without being dehydrated. The DXA scanner assists the athlete with knowing the best and safest level for weight
class to wrestle at.

Who is Eligible?

A WIAA wrestler:

  • whose original minimum weight was within 2 lbs. of the next lowest weight class.
  • who has not gained or lost more than 1.5% per week since the most recent official weigh-in.
  • whose coach and parents agree that it will not be detrimental to the health of the athlete to compete in a lower weight class.
