Left Atrial Appendage Closure Device (WATCHMAN™)
The Watchman™ left atrial appendage closure device is used to reduce stroke risk with atrial fibrillation without having to use blood thinners. The device is implanted in a hospital setting, followed by overnight observation.
If you have atrial fibrillation and you are looking for an alternative to blood thinners, then it’s important to talk to your cardiologist about your options. Tell your cardiologist about any falls or accidents, unusual bruising, or symptoms of bleeding that you have had while on blood thinners. And be sure to ask your cardiologist about the risks and benefits associated with Watchman.
Bellin Health is the first hospital in Northeast WI to perform an implant of the device.
