Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)

This procedure is a minimally invasive approach using stent grafts. The procedure involves two small incisions in the groin area. A stent graft is inserted through the femoral artery and is positioned in the diseased part of the aorta to isolate it and divert blood flow from the aneurysm. Endovascular Repair (EVAR) has lower major post-operative complications (30-70% lower) as compared to open AAA repair, plus there is a shorter hospitalization and recovery time for these patients. Most patients who have had the EVAR procedure are discharged to home 1-3 days after surgery. Post operatively these patients are seen for a follow up visit at one week post-op and one month with pre-clinic CT to evaluate stability of the graft.
