Inpatient Therapy Services
Physical therapy is both the science and art of rehabilitating the musculoskeletal and neurological systems to reach ones maximum functional potential following an illness, injury or disease. Physical therapists complete a comprehensive evaluation of a patient’s functional abilities, which may include assessing mobility, joint motion, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, endurance and posture. Therapists working in the hospital setting may also look at other conditions including prosthetic fitting and home modification education to maximize a patient’s ability to return home upon discharge. Specific services offered at Bellin include but are not limited to therapy following orthopedic surgeries, stroke, wound care, assistive device training, home visits and general mobility training.
Occupational therapy is therapy based on performing the meaningful activities of daily life (self-care skills, education, work or social interaction) despite impairments or limitations in physical or mental functioning. Occupational therapy is for individuals of all ages to improve skills that help them perform daily tasks at home, school, work and play. Occupational therapists are allied health professionals. Their education includes the study of human growth and development, with specific emphasis on the social, emotional and physical effects of illness and injury. Specific services offered at Bellin include but are not limited to activities of daily living training, visual/perceptual training, neuromuscular education, adaptive equipment training, cognitive training and treatment of specific physical impairments.
Speech-language therapy is the treatment of disorders that affect a person’s speech, language, cognition, vocal or swallowing abilities. Speech-language pathologists address people’s speech production, vocal production, swallowing difficulties and language needs through speech therapy in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, outpatient centers and private practice clinics. Specific speech services offered at Bellin include but are not limited to evaluation/treatment related to speech/language dysfunction, voice quality, swallow studies (videofluoroscopy and bedside), cognitive retraining and auditory comprehension.
